With all the warm weather upon us, thoughts turn to spending a couple of quality hours outside in Summer. This might mean relaxing in the garden after work or maybe having a BBQ and eating al fresco. Bounce houses are basically air filled structures that kids (and adults) can have fun on. They are an opportunity for kids to use all that infinite energy they seem to have. They appear to have great fun and their parents enjoy watching them have fun too.
The standard bounce house is only for jumping. This type usually look like a castle therefore the name jumping castle or bouncy castle. They’ve got a large central jumping area which is supported by 4 inflated columns that may have mock-up crenellations, spires or pointy roofs. These columns give the inflatable the design of a castle. Supplementary additions might consist of an entrance that looks like a castle door or portcullis. A few even have a splash or paddle pool on the front of the bouncer that’s supposed to be a moat.
I’m not sure why the concept of a castle is so common in inflatable bouncers although I assume the idea is to spark the imagination of the children that see it. Kids seem to be as fascinated by knights, princesses, suits of armor, swords and castles as they are about dinosaurs so I guess this is the thinking behind it.
With this said, the makers of bounce houses have branched out to include a lot of other designs in bouncers and things to accomplish on them.
These are sometimes called inflatable activity centers or adventure parks. They do not look like castles and their design is usually governed by the type of things that come with them. For instance, some bouncers have slides and climbing walls on them. Others may have tunnels to crawl through. Plus others can be a mix of paddle pool and jumping area (or a wet and dry inflatable).
It is possible to rent these kinds of products or purchase them. In several cases, renting one unit for the day can cost the same as buying one for yourself. Rented ones are often bigger plus you don’t have to fret about them getting a tear. Bought ones are still a pretty good size dependant upon the type you choose and to be honest, they’re not that tough to set up and appear extremely resilient.
